A Guide on Self-Administering Wegovy™
This quick guide provides step-by-step instructions for self-administering Wegovy™. It covers essential preparation, syringe handling, and injection techniques to ensure a safe and effective experience. Follow these simple steps to properly administer Wegovy™ and care for the injection site afterward.
Getting Ready to Use
Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water.
Gather your supplies. This will typically include your pre-filled injection pen and alcohol pads.
Choose your injection site. This injection can be done on the following areas:
Abdomen (avoid the 2-inch area directly around the belly button)
Thigh
Upper arm
Clean your preferred injection site with an alcohol pad and let it air dry.
Administering the Injection
To prepare and use your Wegovy™ pre-filled pen, follow these quick steps:
Remove the pen cap by pulling it straight off.
Pinch the skin at your chosen injection site.
Position the pen straight against your skin, ensuring you can see the pen window.
Start the injection by pressing the pen firmly against your skin. Keep holding it firmly in place for about 10 seconds.
First click: The injection begins, and the yellow bar will start moving in the pen window.
Second click: The injection is still in progress.
Finish the injection: Keep the pen pressed against your skin until the yellow bar stops moving.
Remove the pen by slowly lifting it away from your skin.
Note: The yellow bar will not completely fill the window. If the yellow bar doesn’t move, press the pen more firmly against your skin.
Providing Aftercare
After the injection, carefully remove the needle and discard it in a sharps container. Replace the pen cap and store the pen as instructed. If needed, apply a band-aid to the injection site and monitor for any signs of redness, swelling, or infection.
Take Note:
The needle is for single use only. Do not reuse or share it.
Do not store the pen with the needle attached.
If the pen is damaged, frozen, exposed to light or temperatures above 86°F (30°C), or left unrefrigerated for more than 28 days, dispose of it and use a new one.
