How to Inject Semaglutide
Updated over 2 months ago

⚠️ Important Note:

Prioritize safety when administering injections at home. Ideally, a healthcare professional should give the injection. Self-administration should only be done under the guidance and approval of your healthcare provider. Always follow your healthcare provider’s instructions for taking your prescription.

A Guide to Self-Administering Semaglutide

This quick guide provides step-by-step instructions for self-administering Semaglutide via injection. It covers essential preparation, syringe handling, and injection techniques to ensure a safe and effective experience. Follow these steps to properly administer Semaglutide and care for the injection site afterward.

Getting Ready

  1. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water.

  2. Gather your supplies. You will typically need:

    • Your Semaglutide vial

    • A new syringe and needle

    • Alcohol pads

  3. Choose your injection site. For subcutaneous injections, common areas include:

    • The abdomen (avoid the 2-inch area directly around the belly button)

    • The thigh

    • The upper arm

  4. Clean your chosen injection site with an alcohol pad and allow it to air dry.

Preparing the Syringe

  1. Remove the cap from the Semaglutide vial.

  2. Clean the vial’s rubber stopper with a new alcohol pad.

  3. Draw air into the syringe equal to the amount of Semaglutide you plan to inject. This helps equalize pressure in the vial.

  4. Insert the needle into the vial and push the plunger to inject the air.

  5. Invert the vial so the needle is submerged in the fluid.

  6. Draw the desired amount of Semaglutide into the syringe.

  7. Remove any bubbles by gently tapping the syringe so the bubbles rise to the top. Press the plunger slightly until the bubbles are expelled.

Administering the Injection

  1. Pinch the skin at your chosen injection site.

  2. Hold the syringe like a dart and insert the needle into the skin at a 45–90° angle.

  3. Release the pinched skin once the needle is inserted, then slowly depress the plunger to inject the Semaglutide solution.

  4. Withdraw the needle from the skin.

  5. Dispose of the used syringe and needle in a sharps container.

⚠️ Important Note: Never reuse or share needles.

Providing Aftercare

  • Apply a bandage to the injection site if needed.

  • If you experience any adverse reactions—such as nausea, vomiting, rapid heartbeat, or difficulty breathing—seek medical attention immediately.
